  1. I think the reason many people stop visiting or don't post is because they slowly realize that what works for one person does not work for another and really nothing works to take the red away. I found some cleansing products and moisturizers from one company and a make-up from another company and have stuck with both for over a decade. (Unfortunately the moisturizers from the one company have been changing and I may have to switch if they get too weird.) However, years ago my good health insurance rejected laser therapy as cosmetic and now the state of health insurance is that you pay so much for the insurance that you can't afford medication let alone any treatments anyway. Therefore I guess in a way I feel like I am not in the proper socio-economic bracket to have anything constructive to say here. Everyone quite literally says no sun, well I already plaster my face in high zinc mineral make-up so that I do not feel conspicuously red, so I'll be damned if I am also going to suffer from vitamin D deficiency and depression due to lack of sunlight. Why do I want to hang out somewhere that people preach no sun when my face is just as red and frankly more frighteningly purple in the dead of Northern Michigan winter when it hasn't seen daylight in months? I have not had any of the huge painful pustules and acne breakouts since I switch to a natural soap and real moisturizers complete with oil. Yep like many I still had super oily skin in my late 30's and still get a little oily in my late 40's, but real moisturizers and real (not chemical detergent) soap cleared up my pustules better than Finacia and Metro-gel and the expensive prescription sulfur cleansers. And in the summer I get to cut back on the make-up a bit because the red doesn't glow or look purple with a tan. When I stick to a low carb gluten free diet and relatively natural products from tiny companies who produce things on a small enough scale to leave out the extra chemicals, my face is just very rosy and no-one asks me to sit down because they think I am ready to stroke out. if anyone is interested I use Carley's Clear and Smooth out of Florida for skin care and Monave out east somewhere for my make-up. Monave has a loose mineral make-up that they call Loose Mineral Concealer with extra zinc that when I first started using it helped tremendously to cover the bumps and extreme red and actually soothed my skin. By the time the Carley's products cleared up all the gross parts I have kept using that combination to keep my face happy. The make-up goes a long way even using every single day and the stuff from Carley's is very reasonably priced, so I spend less on skin care now than I did before finding them. Not too many men probably feel comfortable using the make-up but the Carley's soap is literally a bar of soap and the moisturizer is not scented with unnatural perfumes so they are fine for men. There now I have posted and somehow I feel like I am going to get a whole bunch of people with doctorates who are going to lecture me about how they know that what I am doing is wrong and would be better there way; the thing is I saw dermatologists for years and they did nothing to help my skin and they like the eye doctors just looked at my corkscrew eylashes and said "huh".
  2. It has been a few years since I had health insurance to cover Finacea, but I did use it for several months. For me it helped mildly and caused no irritation, which I find odd because my skin is quite sensitive to most things. I also do not have any negative effects with the Metrogel that I am kind of stuck with until I am covered by insurance. I think my results were better overall with the Finacea, however there was no dramatic results. I am completely unable to use any moisturizers or cosmetics from regular store shelves, so I wonder why my skin tolerates Finacea so well when others have issues? I know every body is a little different in its sensitivities, like taking the antibiotics makes my nail beds lift, however for a prescription preparation designed for people with highly sensitive skin, it is distressing that it could make some cases worse.
