  2. "So not all lasers are created equal, some target brown, some target red, some target water to help with wrinkles. Whether you have underlying rosacea or sunspots or if you have a birthmark, things like that, it will be targeted and you will see benefits from it. There's no break in the skin with photo facials so you don't have any downtime or recovery, and when we don't have downtime that's great, but it also means that we probably need more than one treatment. So some of the bigger lasers that get really good results is like one treatment and you are done. When they are less aggressive, the caveat is we have to trade more treatments for no downtime." 9. The RRDi was legally formed as a 501 c 3 non profit organization for rosacea in 2004. Setting up a non profit is not for the timid or faint of heart. What I have found is that most rosacea sufferers could care less how a non profit spends is donations. Case in point is how the NRS spends its donations (if you do care read this page). I have done a great deal of investigation into non profits and how they spend their donations and you can read the results of this investigation if you are interested in this thread. If you think that the RRDi mission statement and purpose is a good idea and want to keep the RRDi going someone really has to take over and carry the baton since I am now 69 years old, have a heart condition, and basically keeping this ship floating pretty much by myself. The other members of the board of directors have their own lives and can give very little volunteer time to the RRDi. We need some board members that are active. I have reached out to others but there are not many who can volunteer as I have done for all these years. Basically what you have is three non profits for rosacea, the RRDi, the NRS, and the AARS. The RRDi is the only non profit organized by rosacea sufferers. The other two non profits are organized by non rosacea sufferers. If you think the RRDi is a good idea and should continue and grow into a better organization some of you must step up to the plate and start swinging. Otherwise, the RRDi is going to dissolve. So think about it and let me know if you can help. I need help and this is a call to arms. Reply to this Topic There is a reply to this topic button somewhere on the device you are reading this post. 10. I read the Brownstein article which is a good read. When I was an EMT in my training I was also told to add 100 to the patients age to reach the systolic threshold. If the patient's systolic was higher than this number the patient had high blood pressure. I still feel the same way about what is considered high blood pressure and also feel the same as Dr. Brownstein about these new BP standards. Thanks for the article. I have always had low blood pressure. At the end of 2015 I had heart issues and was in the hospital for 12 days they gave me a plethora of cardiac drugs, many of them lowering my blood pressure further, until they came up with a concoction of a handful of drugs I was to take after leaving the hospital and took them along with lasix for about year, After drastically changing my diet (no alcohol or coffee for a year) and increasing my exercise I got dramatically better and now only take 25 mg of Carvedilol and one 81 mg of aspirin a day. My blood pressure is still low. My heart is a lot better. Flushing? I flush no more than the general population.
  11. Thanks Mistica for your post on iodine. I have added iodine to the first post mentioning your post. My wife takes kelp drops. I don't have any flushing issues since I take Carvedilol.

  17. NPR is reporting about the New Guidelines published in 2017 for blood pressure in a series of articles. In one article NPR writes, "In the end, they were unanimous in endorsing a lower standard, believing it would reduce risk and be worth the extra medications for people at high risk. Importantly, they did not change the standard for low-risk individuals....The days are pretty much over when doctors could walk into the office and tell people what to do, write a prescription and expect them to comply. Decisions about care shouldn't be edicts. When that happens patients tend to tune out and leave prescriptions unfilled....Overnight, many people discovered that they are now considered to have high blood pressure. With so many people now being considered hypertensive, maybe we should start thinking of it as less of a clinical condition and more as an opportunity for many people to work on ways to promote better health." [1] Another article states, "Now, if your blood pressure tops 130 over 80, you are in unhealthy territory. Having an accurate measure is important because more people than ever may be keeping a close eye on their blood pressure and trying to keep it in a healthy range through diet, exercise and potentially medications." [2] The article explains, "The new guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, released Tuesday, which lowered the threshold for diagnosing high blood pressure from 140/90, mean that nearly half of the U.S. population will be considered as having high blood pressure, with the greatest impact on younger people....There is no single number that determines your blood pressure — it can vary throughout the day and be influenced by something as simple as being approached by a well-meaning nurse carrying a blood pressure cuff. So the new checklist says the diagnosis of high blood pressure requires at least two readings on separate occasions." [2] What has blood pressure have to do with rosacea? One of the longest lasting theories of the cause of rosacea is that is a vascular issue. Many rosaceans take blood pressure medication such as Carvedilol to prevent flushing. You should be aware of these new guidelines if you accept prescription drugs to lower your blood pressure to prevent flushing. 25. A study in 2017 [1] conducted on 'individuals with self-reported gluten sensitivity' was done to understand better "non-celiac gluten sensitivity' since it is unclear what the mechanisms or biomarker are for this disorder. So what is 'non-celiac gluten sensitivity'? "Non-celiac gluten sensitivity is characterized by symptom improvement after gluten withdrawal in absence of celiac disease." The study concluded: "In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study of individuals with self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity, we found fructans to induce symptoms, measured by the gastrointestinal symptom rating scale irritable bowel syndrome version." [1] Anyone who suggests that fructan is the issue rather than gluten to someone on a gluten free diet will without a doubt be raising some ire and shake the core foundation of their belief. After all, for years they have been told 'it has to be the gluten.' 'How can fructan be involved?' They will cry 'the study must be flawed.' One report says, "a full 63% of Americans believe that a gluten-free diet could improve their mental or physical health. And up to a third of Americans are cutting back on it in the hope that it will improve their health or prevent disease." [2] The study used a "a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study of individuals with self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity" and concluded the fructan induced the symptoms. So what is fructan? "A fructan is a polymer of fructose molecules." Wikipedia Doesn't that make more sense that a sugar is the culprit? Yes, sugar is the culprit. For all the naysayers, there will be other studies done on this and in time gluten will no longer be the 'bad' culprit and instead recognized for what it really is, "a protein complex that accounts for 75 to 85% of the total protein in bread wheat." Wikipedia If you have Celiac Disease, "a genetic autoimmune disorder marked by an abnormal immune response to gluten proteins present in wheat, barley, and rye [which] damages the lining of the small intestine, interfering with nutrient absorption," [3] you really do have a sensitivity to gluten. The study referred to above was conducted on those who do not suffer from celiac disease but who self-report gluten sensitivity and report doing better avoiding gluten. So those who think gluten is bad may need to re-think what they are really sensitive to. So if you still think you have a gluten sensitivity you should ask your doctor to test you. There is a DNA test for Celiac Disease. However, there is no test for non-celiac gluten sensitivity.
