  1. Ok I guess you are ingesting it orally? and if you are ingesting it orally, it has residual effects means it is stored in body fat and then progressively released to work and taking too often will cause build up. So you have mentioned that you have already taken your first dose so wait for one week and see the results and then follow the next dose and the recommended dose is 200 mcg(micrograms) per kilogram body weight but slight point difference will be ok but ask and consult your physician before you take any treatment.
  2. There are so many alcohols in Soolantra's inactive ingredients which cause dryness and flakiness of skin which in turn cause itching and irritation and redness. Parabens and propylene glycol are also there which tend to penetrate the skin to help allow other ingredients to enter and this may be the reason your skin reacted and couldn't handle because everyone's skin reacts differently to chemicals.
  3. Yes admin I had learned about the difference when I got rosacea sometimes It was sudden intense redness and bump and sometimes it was episodic redness so I researched about it because it happens with me with the onset of autumn. When the autumn starts I get sudden intense flare with redness and bumps and then the redness and bumps last longer and take time to go and during full autumn and winter after that flare-up, I get short episodic flushing very frequently which looks like it is blushing. but it is all unexpected and unanticipated about its timing.
  4. Yes, I had also mentioned this in my previous post quoting someone's question about tobacco and cigar causing him rosacea and I had said that you have to figure it out which food or item is triggering your rosacea and I had given my example of leaving non-veg (pointing out meat) which was causing me flare-ups and then recently I read about red meat causes skin inflammation. So the point is if any food items or drinks or smoke are triggering your rosacea and are not listed anywhere but you have to keep an eye on your diet because everyone's body reacts differently to what they eat.
  5. Yes, This is exactly what I was trying to explain but the first time I explained was very short and to the point and I realized it was hard to understand and then I explained one by one according to the questions you asked. No, you got it right. Thank you
  6. A paper in 2017 continues to explain the quandary. "Many studies have shown higher density of the parasites in diseased inflammatory skin than in normal skin, but whether it is the cause or result of the inflammation remains unclear." [6] A paper in 2018 may help to resolve this issue because for the first time it has been discovered that Demodex mites secrete bioactive molecules that reduced TLR2 expression in sebocytes. [7] So while the jury is still out on this subject, What do you think? Which comes first, the demodex or the rosacea? Does it even matter? With your above statement I highlighted and giving my view on this topic which comes first, I am also stating the same thing that I think demodex came first well it is not experiment or evidence based but with the experience I have had. Human Permanent Ectoparasites; Recent Advances on Biology and Clinical Significance of Demodex Mites: Narrative Review Article With this journal which you quoted in your article , "Many studies have shown higher density of the parasites in diseased inflammatory skin than in normal skin, but whether it is the cause or result of the inflammation remains unclear." So I was elaborating this sentence that higher density might be the result of inflammation (inflammatory immune response) and then subsequently the cause of inflammation. So I explained this with the term “reciprocal correlation”. And let’s say if the higher density is the result of inflammation, so the altered cutaneous immune responses are the cause of persistent inflammation and that is what I was trying to state in my post but then I read the above journal in detail after your question and I found the confirmation of my expression with these sentences of journal “ Studies indicate increased number of D. folliculorum in immunocompromised patients” and “It remains to be determined which kind of cellular immunity may foster mites’ proliferation” and my statement “the false immune response(altered immune response) might be the cause of increasing number of demodex” state the same thing. Thank you for questions because what I was stating is experience based but after thoroughly reading the reference journals from your article I found the confirmation of the same thing.
  7. In my view, normal skin also has demodex mites but less in number so they can't activate pro-inflammatory cytokines but when the number is more they activate it. so logically when the normal skin flora has demodex before rosacea has occured so demodex apparently came first and because demodex mites cause inflammatory immune response and inflammatory immune response is not just related to mites but self-antigen presentation to immune cells rather than non-self which is false immune response or we call it autoimmune response and attacks to healthy cells and so the false immune response might be the cause of increasing number of demodex .So demodex and rosacea have reciprocity with each other to increase its effects and outcomes.
  8. 1. Introduction Rosacea is a chronic skin inflammatory disease characterized by dilated visible blood vessels causing erythema(redness), telangiectasia, papulopustules and elevated lesion(1). The pathology of rosacea is yet to understand completely but the evidence suggests that the genetic and environmental factors may cause the altered immune system leading to rosacea (2). There are so many oral and topical therapies used for the treatment of rosacea but natural plant components are also emerging as an effective medicine to improve the condition of disease. In this category, a plant species Callistemon viminalis or Melaleuca viminalis commonly known as weeping bottlebrush (2) has shown antimicrobial, antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, its role and effects on rosacea remain unknown and need to be investigated. Callistemon viminalis, is a plant from Myrtaceae family and native to Australia and commonly occurs along watercourses on the coastal plains and it is also widely grown in tropical and temperate region (3,4). Extracts of C. viminalis contain triterpenoids, polyphenols, flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids and tannin (5). Essential Oils : The chemical constituents of the essential oils are : monoterpene hydrocarbons, α-and β-pinene was found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects (6,7,11). oxygenated monoterpenes, 1,8-cineole has a very good anti-inflammatory effects. It was found to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in mice(8). α-terpineol has also disinfectant and antioxidant properties(9) and terpinene-4-ol had shown the activity of suppressing pro-inflammatory mediators. In-vitro study was conducted to show the effectiveness of terpinene-4-ol in penetrating the skin (10,11). Different parts of plant shows good antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activities. For example extraction from leaves(experimental part) has a rich amount of 1,8-cineole and Sesquiterpenes which have good antimicrobial activity against some species such as: Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and n-hexane of leaf extracts showed potential activity against skin pathogen (5). There are a number of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and polyphenols present in the plant but only a few important are pointed out in this article. 2. Method and Application To investigate the effects of Callistemon viminalis on rosacea, the leaf part was considered as the main experimental source. The extraction of essential oil from the leaves here was done by maceration method to make infused oil using coconut oil as the coconut oil has also a soothing effect on rosacea. Concentrated essential oils may cause irritation to inflammed skin. So to test the effects of leaves, infused oil was made using dried leaves. The dried leaves were put in a jar with coconut oil and was kept under the sun from 10-20 days to few weeks. This infused oil has a very strong smell and It was applied on inflamed skin daily for 4-5 months and the results were astounding. The dry leaves contain more antioxidant properties and it is known that the antioxidants play an essential role in oxidative stress of cells by donating electrons to free radicals and thereby reducing the inflammation. Antioxidants are like soldiers always protecting our skin cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. 3. Result This oil showed astonishing effects on frequent flushing and contraction and reduction in dilated blood vessels and decreased erythema. Molecular Test : It should be molecularly tested to see the effects of chemical compounds on proinflammatory mediators and signaling pathways which cause rosacea. Note : Before you use this oil take a patch test on your hand first and see if you have any allergy or sensitivity and if you do make it more diluted with coconut oil. This is good for type I rosacea. 4. 9. It happens sometimes. You know I have been non-vegetarian since childhood and My skin was also flawless now it's been 4 years I have rosacea with some other co-existing conditions and how did I get I do not know so throughout this journey it has been trial and error period.first I left non-veg to see if it has any effects on rosacea and trust me it helped me in reducing my frequent flare-ups. this is just an example, other than that I have systematically managed my diet and routine. What I am trying to tell you is sometimes the things and foods which we had in past that wasn't bothering at all then, sometimes bother now. so you have to keep an eye on things which you consume to see whether it has any increasing effects on your rosacea.
  10. Yes it can, because coffee contains caffeine and cigar contains nicotine and both are chemicals which increase blood pressure. A single full-size cigar can contain nearly as much nicotine as does a pack of cigarettes but coffee is good if you are taking once a day and not more than that.because caffeine and nicotine both can prolong the frequency and period of flushing.
  11. Yes I had seborrheic dermatitis and blepharitis both with rosacea. So when I researched about it thoroughly I found that when you have SD that causes blepharitis it is sometimes combinedly called seborrheic blepharitis.
  12. I never used horse paste or any ivermectin during my medications. I have type I followed by type 2 rosacea but most of the time type I only with the coexisting condition of seborrheic blepharitis and antibiotics work wonder if you take it orally and apply it topically as well and it completely cured me of seborrheic blepharitis and does not exacerbate the rosacea.
  13. Rosaceans always try to use products which can protect their skin from sun rays and try to find the specific products of their needs. It has been said that sunblock is best for rosaceans with sensitive skin than sunscreen because sunblock has mineral composition which is less irritant to skin and protects the skin from UVB rays providing physical barrier so I also started using zinc oxide cream and after a while my skin started becoming very dry, flaky and rough and I could not understand what was causing my skin to get dry and rough and then I found that zinc oxide was the cause of extreme dryness and flaky skin. I know many of you will have suffered from this thing even thinking of doing nothing wrong. So, I have come up with few things : Zinc oxide is an astringent, means it tends to constrict soft organic tissues and so stops secretions like sebum and sweat. So when you apply sunblock cream directly onto your skin since it has thick creamy consistency so we tend to apply it directly onto our skin and it constricts the tissues and stops absorption and secretion because it sits on the top layer of our skin. So what you can do to prevent your skin from excess drying is apply a good amount of moisturizer which suits your skin best and wait for few minutes let it absorb properly and then apply sunblock cream and avoid using frequently when you do not go out and after applying one time you do not need to reapply it. So avoid using frequently and with this practice within one week the excess dryness is less.
  14. Hey Admin, It's completely nothing like that. Whenever I have anything to share and post, I always do. Today I found your post on fasting and I shared my experience with this post and was browsing something and I found NRS designated this month as rosacea month. SO I just shared that news in this forum and after posting that I found this post. I do not know about the donation and support to any organization, I only love to share and spread my knowledge.
  15. Hello all my friends who have been experiencing and dealing with rosacea, National Rosacea society(NRS) has assigned April month as rosacea awareness month to help educate public and spread awareness on the impact of this chronic condition and to seek medical help with acceptance and understanding. Now, What they have asked us to do to participate and get involved in this awareness month to spread this knowledge to everyone who is new to this condition. You can find this on the following link : https://www.rosacea.org/patients/rosacea-awareness-month
  16. Thank you admin for this post. Yes, This is true to some extent that fasting improves skin condition. In Indian culture, fasting is a religious thing that we devote to god and there are different types of fasting which we perform. Whole fasting in which you can have only water no food items and intermittent fasting in which you can have only one time meal and one more fasting in which you can have only fast related food items like fruits or veggies all day. I have done all the different fasting techniques and I am always doing this and I have found a lot of times that when I fast my visible blood capillaries get constricted and my skin quality looks improved and the puffiness due to rosacea is reduced to some extent. Calories restriction and flushing out of toxins due to having only water in fasting are few things which we can count on but at the cellular and molecular level what happens inside the cell when we fast which contributes to the improvement of skin condition needs to be researched.
  17. Why does rosacea flare in autumn? And the reason is: Autumn brings with it cool temperature and dryness in the air and what about rosacea? Yes you are right I have found that rosacea flare makes its way through autumn and gets worsen in winters. Throughout the year I do not get much flare-ups than I get with the onset of autumn and the reason is cool and dry air and the body’s temperature regulation or thermoregulation. After the humid season the climate changes and the temperature suddenly drops down with cool and dry air which draws the moisture from your skin and makes it dry and itchy causing rosacea flare-ups plus dust, mold and pollen in the air increase during fall that cause allergy and then the body sends signal to release white blood cells to the skin and trigger flare-ups. So here is what you can do to prevent rosacea flare-ups besides medications : 1. Drink lots of water to keep your body cool as you drink during summer because we tend to reduce water intake during autumn and winter and this makes our skin dry and itchy. 2. Give your skin a boost of good moisturizer that is fragrant free and chemical free on damp skin. I sometimes simply apply coconut oil to the affected area and it gives so much relief. 3. Avoid direct sun and cover your face when you go out and always apply a good sunscreen which suits your skin best with an SPF of 15 or higher and it should be mineral based not chemical based because mineral based sunscreen gives less irritation and protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. 4. Alcohol and hot drinks are associated with redness and flushing and our consumption increases when the weather becomes cool and that is one of the reasons of flaring. Avoid consuming alcohol and hot drinks too often and let it cool down before you drink. 5. Maintain the temperature of room heater because as you go in and out your body senses the temperature difference and so does your skin and makes it dry and flushed. 6. I have noticed that the use of normal woolen wear makes skin dry and flushed more often so I instead wear flannel clothes for body warming and it does not give frequent flares.
  18. Dear Admin, Thank you for the information of posting article. I did not know about that. Next time I will copy and paste my article in the given space.
  19. There have been a lot of reports on accounting other chronic skin conditions with rosacea and it is true that you can have multiple conditions simultaneously with rosacea. I have experienced rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis and blepharitis together with the combination of erythema and telangiectasia. The very first time this condition appeared as a lesion on half part of nose and cheek and then covered the other part of the face with having scaly torn skin and inflamed eyes. After years of my experience and dealing with these conditions, the symptoms include : Swollen flushed skin, visible dilated blood vessels with stinging and burning sensation on face. SD can cause skin scaly and flaky and can burn with itch and appears mostly on front hair line, forehead and eyebrows that if you itch the flaky and crusty skin falls off like dandruff. Blepharitis usually involves upper eyelid and causes inflamed eyelids, teary red eyes and the most important visual aspect is greasy dandruff like scales form on eyelashes covering half of it. The conditions can go beyond your cheeks and nose and affect earlobes and chin area and can cause flaky and rough chin area with small bumps. The flare ups can last anywhere from few minutes to one day or to one month and they again come back but when it goes you can feel the temperature decrease but it can leave red bumps that looks like acne but gradually the red appearance goes with time but it waxes and wanes. Co-existence : The occurrence of other chronic inflammatory diseases like seborrheic dermatitis and blepharitis are common in patients with rosacea and the good news is, the treatment of other condition does not aggravate the signs and symptoms of rosacea and lessen the flare ups in the meantime. Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids in which the base of the eyelids are swollen and red and flaky greasy like crusts occur around the eyelashes with frequently mildly sticking eyelids and flaky dandruff of eyebrows sometimes called seborrheic blepharitis.(1) It is reported that demodex can worsen the condition of rosacea but it can also aggravate the condition of seborrheic blepharitis.(2) SD can typically occur as rash on the face and a sheet of lesion on back and middle chest area and middle and underneath breast lines. The underlying cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis is not clear, but a type of yeast called Malassezia furfur is involved.(3) I will emphasize these conditions thoroughly in later posts but for now I will explain the treatment I had with these three conditions : When my doctors diagnosed these three conditions, first they prescribed me low dose oral doxycycline capsules (100mg) daily at night. 1. Doxycycline is an antibiotic used for treating bacterial infections. The drug is also sold under the brand names Oracea, Doryx, Monodox, Periostat, and Vibramycin. Doxycycline is in a class of medications called tetracyclines, and it's a broad-spectrum antibiotic, it works against a wide range of bacteria. This medication is used to prevent malaria and treat a wide range of infections, including: skin infection.(4,5) Side effects: stomach upset, constipation, nausea, heavy head. 2. You can apply topical metronidazole gel 0.75% on the affected skin area. Apply a thin layer of gel once or twice daily.I used to apply once at night daily. It is an antibiotic and it works by decreasing redness and inflammation by stopping the growth of certain bacteria and parasites. This antibiotic treats only certain bacterial and parasitic infections. It will not work for viral infections. (6) Side effects : burning and eye irritation if it gets close to the eyes. 3. Ketoconazole 2 % and Zinc pyrithione 1 % (Shampoo) for the fungal and yeast infections of the skin. Ketoconazole an active ingredient works by interfering and weakening with the formation of the fungal cell membrane. It better works with seborrheic dermatitis and blepharitis. Thoroughly apply on wet hair and massage and leave it for 5 minutes and then rinse it out. It does not make lather like other shampoos. Take a drop on finger, rub it and apply gently on eyelashes on tightly closed eyes and rinse it properly. With 8 weeks of proper use twice in a week completely cured me of SD and blepharitis. Side effects : itchy and dry scalp 4. If you have dermatitis on your chest and breast lines and back, you can use the composition of Boric acid and Clotrimazole cream together. It works by reducing inflammation and inhibiting the growth of fungi. Apply a thin layer of this base and rub until it absorbs completely twice or thrice daily. I applied this on my front and back area for four to five days and it worked wonder and the lesions gradually disappeared. Note : before taking any above medication consult your doctor or physician and alcohol should not be consumed during any medication it can worsen the condition of rosacea and if you are pregnant or on breast-feeding and any other condition like diabetes or heart problem, take this medications as directed by your doctor. Instead of relying on oral and topical steroids my doctor prescribed me bacterial and fungal medications because taking steroids for SD and blepharitis can exacerbate the condition of rosacea and relying on antibiotics and anti-fungal treatments can lessen the condition of SD and blepharitis and keep the rosacea at bay.
