Root Admin Guide Posted April 22, 2011 Root Admin Report Share Posted April 22, 2011 Candida albicans (a fungus or yeast) and rosacea have been linked in at least one research paper. This lone report said that a “patient was treated with intermittent pulses of itraconazole for the candidasis and doxycycline initially before being substituted with isotretinoin 6 months later for the rosacea.” and the outcome was that “the patient’s candidiasis responded well and has been in remission for 3 months while his rosacea continues to improve.”[1] Antibiotic resistance and bacterial overgrowth are other complications of long term antibiotic treatment for rosacea. [2] Walter Last dubs this 'antibiotic syndrome.' [3] "The use of invasive devices and broad spectrum antibiotics has increased the rate of candidal superinfections." [4] Wikipedia lists a number of different types of Candida besides Albicans. Since the first line treatment for rosacea usually includes antibiotics this may include the risk of later developing candida albicans. Indeed, there are anecdotal reports of rosaceans developing candida. [5] Candida albicans image There are also some threads on candida and rosacea to consider. [6] Treatment First off don't eat sugar (or a high carbohydrate diet) which feeds candida. According to Wikipedia, "The probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii is undergoing much research as of late, demonstrating its ability to diminish levels of Candida in the body. This is hence one of the specific probiotic strains often recommended alongside a more general probiotic, for anyone on a Candida cleanse or Candida diet." [7] There are a number of antifungals to consider.
