The number of diseases linked to rosacea continues to grow. Below are some links to dementia and rosacea. For example, a nationwide cohort study from Denmark explored the relationship between rosacea and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. MMPs are believed to be associated with the neurodegenerative diseases and an increased expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9 has also been observed in rosacea. In addition, another Danish study found that rosacea was significantly associated with dementia, especially Alzheimer disease. AMPs, MMP, and inflammatory cascades, which have a shared impact on both rosacea and Alzheimer disease, are considered to be involved in the underlying mechanism. The risk for women with rosacea was greater than for men, at 28 percent compared to 16 percent." Rosacea can co-exist with other inflammatory conditions. If you are an elderly person and you have been diagnosed with a form of dementia, it is linked to chronic inflammation that means neuroinflammatory condition and neuropeptides are associated with this inflammation because they are the mediators of inflammation and neuropeptides circulate between the brain and peripheral tissues and hence found in the skin and is the cause of your rosacea because chronic skin inflammatory conditions are associated with neuropeptides.
